Apple (23.10.12) Event

Wrap-up

Tim Cook wraps up what was a busy show and a busy year for Apple.

To recapitulate, most of the Mac line has been refreshed along with a tweaked 10" iPad. We also finally got to see the iPad mini.

Apple Unveils the iPad Mini

Priced at $329 for the base version increasing in steps of $100 for double the storage. LTE to cost an additional $130. Ships early November (US).

4th Generation iPad

Powered by the A6X processor (doubling CPU and graphics performance), 720p FaceTime camera and the lightning connector. Same price as before. Ships November 2nd (US).

Numbers again

"We sold more iPads in the June quarter than any PC maker sold of their entire lineup." said Tim Cook who just announced that Apple has sold 100 million iPads so far.
Remember, this is a market that didn't exist 2 years ago.

The New iMac

5 mm razor thin edge, 21.5-inch and 27-inch. 2,560 x 1,440 and 1,920 x 1,080 IPS displays, no optical drive, improved screen and stereo, Core i5 or i7 processors, NVIDIA Kepler graphics, up to 768GB of flash or 3TB HDD with 32GB of RAM.
$1,299 for the base model which ships November (US).

The New Mac Mini

2.5GHz dual core processor with 4GB of RAM and 500GB HDD for $599.
Server, 2.3GHz Core i7 with 4GB of RAM and dual 1TB HDDs for $999.
Ships today (US).

And here we go...

Tim Cook takes the stage, the wait is finally over.

13" Retina MacBook Pro Leaks

The 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro has been leaked on Google right before the Apple event.
Whatever happened to doubling down on secrecy!

Apple Event to be Live Streamed
JOY!!!*

*As long as you own an Apple device

Live Stream for Apple TV Owners

Tonight's event will be live-streamed on the Apple TV. Oddly the event would not be streaming on iOS or Mac OS devices (as of now). Oh, no chance of a live stream for PC users.

That's what we are for, you can follow our live coverage which kicks off at 10.30PM (IST). We'll be alive-n-kicking on TwitterFacebook and on this thread as well.

Event Venue
The California Theatre in San Jose gets dressed up for tonight's event.

Trot here for more shots.

The New New iPad

Don't expect anything great here as it's a mid-cycle refresh and not a new product announcement. The iPad is expected to get new, improved, internals along with Apple's new Lightning connector. The iPad is the only iOS device which doesn't sport the Lightening connector and Tim is set to change that.

Sucks for early adopters though.

Retina MacBook Pro

Ever since the launch the 15" Retina MacBook Pro, the existence of a smaller cheaper 13" Retina version has been circulating wildly. Well this could be it.

Redesigned iMac and Mac Mini

The HP Spectre iMac hasn't been updated in a while. Don't go expecting a Retina display but the iMac is expected to get a much need refresh - slimmer profile + improved internals + USB 3.0.

And then there's the Mac Mini...

iTunes 11

During the iPhone 5 event Apple promised us a shiny new version of iTunes coming out in October. It certainly does make sense to release this at an event not to mention the fact that Apple likes keeping the software "ready" before new hardware (iPad Mini here) makes an appearance.

Official: Apple hands out invites
Apple has sent out invitations for their rumored "iPad Mini" event which takes place on the 23rd of October. The event will take place in California Theater in San Jose - uncharted territory as far as Apple events are concerned.
Also, the invitations were sent out the same day as Microsoft unveiled pricing for the Surface, and I don't think that that's a coincidence.

"iPad Mini" revelation on October 23rd?
News publication site AllThingsD is reporting that Apple is set to announce the iPad Mini at a fairly low-key event on October 23rd. Apple has just come off a huge event and to organise something on a similar scale it prohibitive in nature. The invitation-only event is expected to be held at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium.

If Apple can do something big here then they are perfectly poised to troll the Microsoft Surface launch happening 3 days later. Not to mention the rumoured Nexus and Windows/Windows Phone 8 events as well.

"iPad Mini" Rumour Round-Up

It's new, it's shiny; it's cool, it's tiny. Yep, that's the gist of it. If that doesn't satisfy your curiosity pants then here's an in-depth rumour round-up of what you can expect.
