Once in every few years a certain different kind of waveform rises..
The kind we call KICKASS.
Being a Bollywood fanatic, I can assure you it's even more rare in Bollywood.
And by the title you must've guessed I'm talking about "Gangs of Wasseypur".
This is not a music review.
I'm about to explain how Music plays the most crucial role, of connecting On and Off-screen talent with the audience and viewers alike.
GoW is definitely one of a kind in Bollyland. It's a cult film which defines itself. I daresay it's comparable to Sholay and Deewar.
What makes GoW such a major hit is the urge for revenge spanning across 3 generations with unique, brilliantly written characters spread THROUGHOUT the 5 hour long movie. Of course Anurag Kashyap has chosen the most mind-blowing star cast and they carry every character just...beautifully.
Special mention to Nawabuddin Siddiqui (Faizal Khan) as he manages to fuse two completely opposite characteristics of "F K" into one maverick of a lead. Emotional, love-lorn combined with rough, bold, smart and blood-thirsty.
Sneha Khanwalkar has delivered an album which kicks unholy ass.
Chase sequences with crazy tabla beats in the background sure might give it a comic twist but do remind us that this means serious business.
Spotlight of GoW I was "Jiya Tu" and it kinda stuck on..
Similarly we have "Chi Cha Lather" as a major blockbuster here. You WILL groove to it no matter whichever mood you're in.
It's an amazing composition with Dubstep Music and a 12 year old girl at the vocals who really fits perfectly into the kind of vocals needed for this song.
Captain's knock, the song "Electric Piya" sung by Sneha Khanwalkar herself brings out so much of rawness and bold, daring style of Rural North India.
Other instrumental tracks like "Perpendicular's Theme" and "Tunya", does it's job of side-lining one of the major supporting characters of the movie.
"Aabroo" is one pumping track which will increase your heartbeat for sure as it has some crazy drum rolls and amazing vocals by Piyush Mishra. It pumps you up. Great use of 2/4 and 4/4 time signatures.
Dubstep in Bollywood?
"KKL" is one track you should not miss. It's a faster version of "Keh Ke Lunga" from Gow I but with composition skills like no one else's. Crazy mix of beats and turntable scratches combined with an equally amazing falldown at intervals. Liked it a lot.
Do watch out for Faizal Khan, Shamshaad, and Perpendicular in this one. They are vibrant characters who are in for kicking some serious ass. It should be a fast paced movie now that blood needs to spill.
So in case you're planning to go for this movie, just make sure you keep your eyes and ears open, and ESPECIALLY your brain intact.

ReplyDeleteThis we call the bawaal movie.....even 100s of Rowdy Rathods and Dabangg would gasp for breath before movie like GoWI and II. Part I was like bullet started, and Part is the the same bullet when it reaches climax. Yes, we certainly missed Manoj Bajpayi though all performances in part 2 were great and electric...just like electric piya! Movie ho to aesi! Cheecha leather....Best of the year.
