It looks eerily similar to the 4/4S and we all know how good that design that was. I thought the iPhone 5 was neat and over the next xyz words I explain exactly why...
ScreenObviously it has a 4" screen and obviously it's amazing. The resolution if 1136*640 and the pixel density comes to 326ppi. That's not it, the touch panel has also been integrated into the Retina display, allowing the screen to be even thinner and sharper, and produce less glare in sunlight. The screen also sports better colour saturation with full sRGB rendering to make you birds and pigs look pixel perfect. The bezel on the side has been cut down so the phone feels like all screen on the front. I still haven't seen a screen that beats Apple's and I'm highly doubtful if I ever will...
One of the sweetest thing I find in an iPhone is the camera and it seems that Apple has added some sugar to just that. The camera is still 8-megapixel and has all those cool optics of the iPhone 4S, but it's thinner and captures images 40% faster than it's predecessor. New image processor in the A6 promises to reduce noise and accomplish better color matching. Also built in to the iOS 6 camera application is support for panoramic photos. The forward-facing FaceTime HD camera also records 720p video, and has backside illumination.
Processor
The iPhone 4S was no slouch but this is like the king of snappy. The iPhone 5 gets the A6 processor which is twice as faster than the outgoing A5. Despite the additional horsepower the processor has actually shrunk in size and isn't big on draining batteries either. This is where the iPhone 5 is truly the stuff of dreams. Just 7.6 mm thin and 112 grams in weight. Yes it looks similar to the 'old one' but that feeling vanishes when you hold this baby. The back consists of glass casing at the top with matte-finished aluminum occupying the majority of the back, while the front is all glass. The device is extremely thin and light. The materials used aren't cheap by any means and the detail & build is immaculate.
Great battery life + thin & light doesn't equal 4G LTE. In iWorld it does. The iPhone finally gets LTE and in doing so Apple is working with an array of international carriers. The iPhone 5 also sports a dynamic antenna that switches between connections seamlessly.
The wi-fi radios have also been knackered up and now run on 5GHz frequency as well. Download speed is up to 150Mbps
The bulky 30-pin connector gets ditched for the Apple's sleek new connector titled Lightning. The new connector has a very slim profile and doesn't require to be inserted in a particular direction. Apple has put out an adapter to make existing accessories work with the new connector profile.
Headphone jack has been moved to the bottom of the phone as well.
The acoustics of the iPhone have been greatly improved: three mics, better speakers, wideband audio.
The iPhone 5 comes pre-installed with iOS 6 and the first party apps have all been configured to work well with the longer display.
As with previous iPhones, the iPhone 5 will be available in two colors: black and white. The white model has a raw aluminum back, while the black version has a black anodized metal back.
Pricing and Availability No changes here, $199 for the 16GB version and 32GB and 64GB versions are priced $299 and $399 respectively. The device ships to U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore on the 21st, 22 other countries get it on the 28th and Apple is looking to make the device available in another 100 nations by the years end.
No word about India but we should have it this year and should cost Rs.45,000 or less.
As you can see that the iPhone 5 is a step-up in every single department. The design is beautiful, the OS is simple and curated, the camera is stunning and Apple has got all the little bits right. Comparing this to an iPhone is insane. Jonathan Ive revealed that this isn't an iterative design, the whole device has been build from the ground-up. Putting so much in a space so tiny with serious weight constraints is nothing but alchemy, and Apple has done just that. The iPhone 5 is truly an amazing device and even though it has it's shortcomings it doesn't make it's user care about them. This is the phone you gorge, this is the phone you read about, this is the phone you stalk before launch, this is the phone you BUY.
