"Temple Of Thought" thought over by Stark

So Poets of the Fall released their brand new album "Temple of Thought" on the 21st of March..
As the name suggests it really DOES require a lot of thought to understand the emotion behind most of the songs.



Well here I am with my review of Temple of Thought by Poets of the Fall :)

Now before I begin breaking down the songs for you, here's a Quick Guide to figure out Poets of the Fall for yourself :-


The songs in general begin with soft vocals which slowly progress into a mildly strong pre-chorus, silence and then BAM!! the chorus starts with a mind-blowing entrance with the drums, the rhythm guitar, and the bass coming in at once. Leading them is the vocalist Marko Saaresto who has a soft, echosome, yet a  gripping voice. The second stanza goes into soft rock again and between the final stanza and second chorus there's a BRILLIANT lead by lead guitarist Olli Tukianen, fondly referred to as "Ollie". 

Overall, their songs have EXTREMELY high energy and the lyrics are just BAFFLING. 
One thing is for certain..the songs NEVER fail to surprise you. You might feel Deja Vu at the intro of a particular track but my friend,you are DEFINITELY mistaken.
As the name suggests, the lyrics are written in a poetic tone and they have really deep meanings. If you are a real hardcore POTF fanatic, you would probably be immersed into a sea of lyrical beauty by this album.

Overview of Album :

If you're the kind of person who loves to be taken into the infinity-ness of overwhelming emotions,this one's for you.
Temple of Thought is a really deep album. It grips you song-by-song but fails to do so when you listen to it in order. The type of songs are placed congruent-alternatively in the original order. There'll be a blood pumping song at first which would be followed by a relatively soft track, and so the order keeps on shuffling. 
One thing that applies to every song is that the intro is AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL.
It might just be Arpeggios but for sure it's one of those things which stick in your head and absolutely refuse to linger away even for a moment.

Saaresto pampers your ears with the extra sweet tracks like "Cradled in Love" and then drops you down into a pool of emotions with "Temple of Thought". The drums are particularly brilliant, and the way it all emerges into the chorus is epic.

Song-by-Song review :

1)Running Out of Time : "Crazy running like we're running out of time..."

Fast progressing lyrics and a standard rhyme scheme. What particularly bothered me was the lead was a bit distracted from the key note and song tone.

2)Temple of Thought : "I want you to know that you're the heart of my Temple of Thought"

The title track of the album, deserves to be, and how! Strong support bass-line which really gives it certain depth. Entry into chorus is particularly mind-blowing.

3)Cradled in Love : "Cry tears of joy..."

The kind of song you can play to your girlfriend on your anniversary reminding her of her tyranny in a diplomatically sweet way! Good use of the Phaser effect on lead. This sticks in your head for a LONG TIME. I mean c'mon when you can hear Dolphins sing in tear drops, shit gets real braw.

4)Kamikaze Love : "Take me where the angels fall..."

One of the best and most typical POTF songs. Strong, well-built chorus. The short one-word breaks coupled with the guitar riffs was BAFFLING! Quickly progressive lyrics. The ending spins to Zero Volume and gives my ear a beautifully unpleasant feeling. Not leaving my head for quite some time now.

5)The Lie Eternal : "This whole damn controversy will shift its course..."

Not one of the best songs of the album. Not too strong stanzas. Fast and progressive lyrics throughout. Reminds me of "Nine Inch Nails" somehow. Liked the chorus. And the kinda things that happen In Your Embrace, man!

6)Skin : "I couldn't heal myself with time alone...I have you tattooed on my skin"

Surprisingly active song. Entry to the final chorus BLEW my mind away. Well-written, strong chorus. Extremely lyrical. Electronic fillers used more excessively.

7)The Distance : "Won’t anyone come and soothe my pain..We just will never burn again"

Not overly active. Monotonous till the ass of second chorus. Background fillers well managed. Nice choice of chord progressions. Great lead intro.

8)Show Me This Life : "You’re just a fantasy away.."

Fast and monotonous. Oddly out of place lead this time. Shifting scales during in between the chorus and stanza doesn't appeal too much. Not one of my favorites.

9)Morning Tide : "Love is still here...Never will it leave"

I miss the lead in this track. Lazy and monotonus, yet again. Could've been better with a better choice of chords.

10)The Ballad of Jeremiah Peacekeeper : "For to be invincible he needs your love.."

My favorite. Strong, well-built and generously progressive. Beautifully expressed and brings out the character to life. Little drum-roll surprises with filler combos sound deadly! 

Unless you don't like songs which bring about a sense of pain and misery, don't even bother listening it'll just put you to sleep.

11)The Happy Song : "A violent schizophrenia, you know I'm gonna' get ya'.."

Very happy indeed (observe hint of subtle sarcasm). It's a surprisingly lovely gift. I would suggest you check this out for yourself. The voice managed to scare the crap out of me. Another nice one. In fact, a delightful break from tradition.

Final Say :

This was indeed a good experience. 
POTF I've been a fan since "Carnival Of Rust" and will continue to be. Mostly because I can relate to the lyrics.
Loved the drum-rolls more than anything. Great job.
So I would give this one a solid 8/10. 
Deserved it.
